The Governor of Ala. may extradite criminals from other states or be asked to return criminals found in Ala. to other states. This process is also known as requisition. Included among many extradition documents are letters, affidavits, and depositions from concerned parties. Included is a requisition from the Gov. of Tennessee requesting the extradition of Charles Ross from Ala. Attached to the document is an affidavit sworn by Demarcus G. Stacks of Knox Co., Tenn., stating that Ross "did feloniously and burglariously" break into Stacks' house and steal $1500 in gold coin and a lady's gold watch. Also contained is a requisition issued by Gov. Moore to the Gov. of Ark. for the arrest and extradition of William Barham, who was charged with "removing four negro slaves with the intent to carry the same out of the state for the purpose of defrauding George S. Turman, guardian of Sarah F. Barham." An accompanying affidavit by Turman bears the signature A.J. Walker, Chief Justice of the Ala. Supreme Court.
